One day, Stella was drifting through a lush forest, feeling a little lost and weighed down. She had been journeying for so long, meeting friends, learning new things, and growing in ways she hadn’t even expected. But sometimes, even with all she had learned, a part of her felt heavy, as if she was carrying a weight she couldn’t name.
As she wandered, she heard a gentle, warm sound—a laugh so deep and joyful that it seemed to shake the very leaves on the trees. Intrigued, she followed the sound until she reached a small clearing where, to her surprise, she saw a figure sitting under a great, ancient tree.
It was the Laughing Buddha. His eyes sparkled like stars, and his smile was as wide as a river, filled with pure joy and kindness. His belly shook as he chuckled, and his laughter seemed to flow around him like a gentle breeze.
The Laughing Buddha looked up and saw Stella standing there. “Ah, little star,” he greeted her, his eyes twinkling. “Come, sit with me! You look like you have a story to tell.”
Stella felt a mix of curiosity and wonder as she approached him. “Hello,” she said softly, settling down beside him. “I don’t know if I have a story, but… I do have a feeling.”
The Laughing Buddha chuckled again, a sound like the rustling of the leaves. “Tell me about this feeling, little one.”
Stella took a deep breath. “I’ve been on a long journey, meeting friends and learning so much. I feel like I’ve changed and grown. But sometimes, even with all I’ve learned, I feel a weight inside me, like I’m not quite free. It’s as if I’m carrying something I don’t need, but I don’t know how to let it go.”
The Laughing Buddha nodded, listening with great care. “Ah,” he said softly, “it sounds like you’re carrying the weight of needing to be something specific—perfect, perhaps? Maybe even always brave or strong?”
Stella’s eyes widened. “Yes! Sometimes I feel like I have to be the brightest star, the one that shines the strongest, the one that never fades.”
The Laughing Buddha laughed again, his mirth filling the air with warmth. “Oh, Stella,” he said gently, “you are already enough, just as you are. You don’t have to be the brightest, or the strongest, or the most fearless. You only have to be you.”
Stella looked at him, surprised. “But… if I’m just me, will that be enough? Will I still be able to help others and be the friend they need?”
The Laughing Buddha smiled, his eyes soft with understanding. “Being yourself is the greatest gift you can give, to both yourself and to others. People are drawn to your light because it’s unique, because it’s you. Letting go of the need to be perfect frees you to be truly present. And in that presence, you’ll find a light that is boundless, one that flows naturally from your heart.”
Stella felt a shift inside her, a sense of relief as if she was letting go of something she didn’t even know she was holding. She began to laugh—softly at first, and then louder, as the weight she’d been carrying started to lift. The Laughing Buddha’s laughter joined hers, and soon they were laughing together, their joy echoing through the trees.
As she laughed, Stella felt her colors growing brighter, not because she was trying to shine, but because she was free. Free to be exactly who she was, with all her cracks, doubts, and dreams. Her light filled the clearing, radiating warmth and happiness.
The Laughing Buddha gave her a gentle pat on the back. “Remember, little star, true joy comes from being at peace with yourself. Embrace the journey, the ups and downs, the laughter and the tears. All of it makes you who you are, and that’s a beautiful thing.”
Stella nodded, her heart full. She felt transformed, not by becoming someone new, but by embracing who she already was. She didn’t need to be the brightest star in the sky; she just needed to be herself, with all the light and love she carried within.
As she prepared to leave, she looked back at the Laughing Buddha, who waved with a warm, knowing smile. “Thank you,” she said softly. “I feel lighter than ever before.”
The Laughing Buddha chuckled one last time. “Go on, Stella. Shine in your own way, and remember—you are already everything you need to be.”
And with a final smile, Stella floated up into the sky, her colors brighter than ever. She no longer worried about being perfect or fearless. She was enough, just as she was, and she carried that joy with her wherever she went, laughing and shining, free to be herself in every way.
